Basic Eligibility Requirements

Permanent Resident Status – You must be a permanent resident of Canada and not under removal orders

Physical Presence – Must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) during the 5 years immediately before applying. Time spent in Canada as a temporary resident (before becoming a PR) can count as half-days, up to a maximum of 365 days.

Tax Filing – Must have filed income taxes for at least 3 years within the 5-year period, if required to do so

Language Proficiency – Applicants aged 18-54 must demonstrate adequate knowledge of English or French

Knowledge of Canada – Must pass a citizenship test covering Canadian history, values, institutions, and symbols (for applicants aged 18-54)

No Prohibitions – Must not be prohibited from applying due to criminal history or immigration violations
