Ontario Updates Express Entry Criteria for Self-Employed Physicians
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has introduced regulatory amendments allowing self-employed physicians to meet work experience requirements under the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities and French-Speaking Skilled Worker streams.
Under the revised rules, applicants with self-employment experience in specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes can now qualify. The eligible NOC codes include:
- NOC 31100 – Specialists in clinical and laboratory medicine
- NOC 31101 – Specialists in surgery
- NOC 31102 – General practitioners and family physicians
Applicants must choose one of two federal program criteria for assessment:
- Federal Skilled Workers Program
- Canadian Experience Class
The amendment primarily benefits applicants opting for the Canadian Experience Class, allowing them to include self-employment experience in a designated NOC. However, these changes do not extend to other occupations beyond the specified NOC codes.
